Hi, I’m Monica,
a family photographer,
based in Freehold, NJ.
I’m so drawn to the fact that kids are masters of being in the moment and my passion is helping families’ document those spontaneous, free-spirited and curious years.
My journey of becoming a children’s photographer…
As a child of the 80’s and 90s, I feel fortunate to have grown up during the film days and have something to show for my childhood.
The only way we could experience the moments we photographed back then was by printing them. We had to take a lot less photos, excitedly wait to get them back, and then those moments got our full attention. Whereas now we take far more pictures than we have time to appreciate.
“When you look at a photograph that is printed, you are free of distraction allowing you to really engage and experience all it has to offer” – Seth Resnick.
It’s hard to keep up with life so it’s important that you have something physical to remember where your child is now because before you know it the next phase is already here.
I was looking at my childhood photos one day and this little poem just came to me.
There are pictures of me
High up in the trees
A shy girl who sometimes lived fearlessly
How quickly you forget the days you felt carefree
But the images I have let me see
All the pieces of my childhood memories
Before I was a child & family photographer, I was a Counseling graduate student interning at a social skills program for children. But life took me in a different direction, a more creative one, when I fell into a graphic design and marketing role at an interior design/architecture firm and now 11 years later at a community education program for the Princeton hospital. For the same hospital I also photographed over 100 newborns and NICU babies through Bella Baby…I’ve never held so many babies! And in earlier years, I volunteered as a photographer for the ASPCA animal shelter.
Making your family feel comfortable during sessions is so important to me. Even I still get butterflies when meeting clients for the first time, so I love working with families who want to be photographed more routinely so that over time we all feel more like friends than strangers.
Adding warmth and comfort into your home through the photos I capture and making you happy makes me so happy.
OTHER THINGS THAT BRING ME COMFORT
Cups of hot tea.
Rainy days and staying in pj’s.
Getting distracted by all the beauty in nature on walks with my husband…it’s so hard not to!
Oh and nothing better than snuggling with these three 🙂
